From values to competencies

The ACON competency model

Values, both our own and those demonstrated by others, strongly influence behavior. What each person does every day and how they do it represents the competencies that are actually available to a company. Lived values — a company’s real “why” — shape behavior throughout the organization.

The ACON competency model is a method for identifying, objectively assessing and developing this behavior at every level of the company. Consistent application starts with examining today’s business challenges and people’s changing needs.

This approach supports both a leadership culture aligned with the company’s values and positive changes in employees’ behavior.

From

  • Values that are not lived consciously
  • Subjective assessments of behavior
  • Individual, uninspiring employee assessments by managers

To

  • Transparency and guidance on company values and expected behavior
  • Feedback based on a shared, company-wide understanding of values-based behavior
  • Objectivity in assessing behavior

Impact on organizational development

Build leadership skills: Develop a tool together with managers and coach them in its use so that they can develop their own competencies and those of their teams.

Develop behavior sustainably: Strengthen employees’ behavior in line with the company’s philosophy. This requires substantial leadership capacity and time so that everyone can develop individually and as part of a team.
